The singer is Phillip Karpel, as recorded in the mid-1960's on a Wollensak reel-to-reel by his son Sam Karpel, at home in Rochdale Village, Queens NY; in the background can be heard Sam's children, including future Metropolitan Klezmer / Isle of Klezbos vocalist, Deborah Karpel. This excerpt is from a many-stanza'ed ballad (sung in an ironic, regretful first person) narrating a youn man's journey through life as leading up to the taking of his nuptial vows, the 'harei at', recited when a ring is slipped on the finger of the intended bride...
